CAPE TELEVISION CERTIFIED SPOILER FREE REVIEW™
This episode wraps up the dangling plot threads from the last episode and concludes a pretty interesting first season. Major has been captured by Blaine's Zombie Squad. Peyton is in the wind. Members of a band called the Asshats are still being murdered. Olivia and Ravi are still working on a cure for the zombie condition brought on by the Max Rager™ energy drink.
The plot moves and only has one Moment of Dumb*. There are two villains this time around. Blaine, who like all good monsters has only one name**, has Major locked in a freezer as he waits for the zombie hunter to crack and reveal the location of the missing brains. In a moment of brilliance, Blaine reveals his place in the world and how he is averting the zombie apocalypse. For now. The other villain is the energy drink company that's the source of the zombie plague. The aspects of the company act to eliminate the proof of the guilt of the company as they prepare for the launch of a bigger, better energy drink.
This episode delivers a nice series of threats by Detective Clive, a gun fight, an explosion, the death of a lead character and a heart-breaking decision. Comparisons are being made to Buffy the Vampire Slayer by various television critics. Those parallels work for me. This season Olivia moves from med student to monster to monster hunter. I can't wait to see where Season Two goes.
