The third episode of Gotham shows a marked improvement in story-telling. Alfred does a little parenting including the attempt to get Master Bruce to have a sandwich. Oswald creates a little mayhem. Another mobster arrives with an agenda. Oh, and a lunatic vigilante is hand-cuffing bad guys to weather balloons and launching them into the next life.

Gordon and Bullock start putting pieces together leading to kidnappers who need live bodies for a picky client. Detecting ensues.

One of the new fall shows with the highest of expectations is Gotham. In fact, Netflix secured the streaming rights for the series (for $1.75 mil per episode) two weeks before the pilot aired. Rome and The Mentalist prove Bruno Heller knows how to make good TV. Ben McKenzie who starts as young Jim Gordon was great in Southland. Donal Logue was charming on Terriers. The stories spin around in Batman’s hometown and start with the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne, the incident that causes an angry kid to put on a costume and punch people. Everything is in place for something amazing.

But Gotham is unreal and not in a good way.
